Out of circulation since the early-nineties, the legendary concert film finally finds a home in the digital age

In case you weren't already overwhelmed by the flood of unheards on the deluxe edition of Prince's Purple Rain (or the prospect of his sister releasing the full contents of the vault,) another one of the late icon's rarities is making its way to the masses.

Recorded on the tour supporting his 1987 nearly-solo masterpiece, Sign O The Times, a concert film, comprising footage captured at Paisley Park and on stage overseas (discontinued in the US in 1991 after going platinum on VHS and eventually making way to DVD in several countries outside of the states) has been acquired by Showtime. It's set to air on Saturday, September 16th. Purple patrons will notice members of both The Revolution and the freshly-formed New Power Generation in the band, blazing through classic cuts with surgical precision, even covering Charlie Parker's "Now's The Time."
