24 years after its release, Mimi’s Christmas anthem is still getting all of the burn.

Yesterday, Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” broke Spotify’s single day streaming record.

According to Chart Data, the holiday hit was streamed 10.8 million times through Christmas Eve. The new record dethrones XXXTentacion‘s “SAD” as the previous holder with 10.4 million streams on the day of his murder (June 19th.) Analysts aren’t surprised, though. Apparently, “All I Want For Christmas” has been steadily rising on iTunes and Billboard charts since early November. All of which confirms that the song was intentionally designed to be the first and last thing you hear of each subsequent holiday season since 1994. Carey, for her part, is thrilled, of course:

And you should probably get used to it. As the streaming landscape broadens, you can expect to see songs and projects that are synonymous with the season make the leap back onto the charts every year. Here’s hoping the Hathaway family’s cashing these “This Christmas” checks.
