Jessie Reyez Unveils Video for Latest Single "Far Away"
The visual sheds light on the ongoing issues impacting immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Jessie Reyez has officially released a music video for her new single “Far Away.” The timely visual is directed by Mark Huang and produced by Mad Ruk Entertainment. Thematically, the clip explores the ongoing immigration issues happening at the U.S.-Mexico border directly impacted by the choices of President Donald Trump.
In the video, the Colombian singer dances with a love interest and during this poignant moment he is taken away in an ICE raid. Later in the clip, the untimely death of her love interest takes place pointing to the violence immigrants go through on a daily basis at the hands of ICE officers.
In an official statement shared with CBS News, the singer opens up about the theme of the video:
“I see myself in those that are being wrongfully persecuted. I see my dad anytime I see people disrespecting a Latino because they can’t speak English properly. I see those things. I wanted to make it as potent a visual as possible. So it can be a catalyst in your brain.”
Reyez’s debut album is slated to release in the early part of 2020, according to Billboard. Check out the “Far Away” music video below.
