'Cowboy Bebop' Soundtrack Set for First International Vinyl Release
Pre-orders go live on August 6th.
With original copies going for hundreds of dollars on eBay and other secondary marketplaces, Cowboy Bebop's soundtrack is finally getting the international vinyl release the world deserves.
According to Polygon, the beloved score, composed by Yoko Konno as Seatbelts, is getting a 2xLP gatefold reissue, featuring 22-tracks and new artwork from Toshihiro Kawamoto, the show's character designer and animation director (see above.) Marking the first time the soundtrack has been made available on vinyl outside of Japan, the repressing will arrive in a range of colored wax variants at a number of retailers, including Milan Records, Newbury Comics, and Light in The Attic. The Milan Records edition will feature red and purple marbled wax. A price has yet to be revealed, but pre-orders will go live on August 6th via Milan Records ahead of a November 6th release.
Cowboy Bebop premiered in 1998 in Japan and gradually worked its way to international syndication. It arrived stateside in 2001 as the first anime show featured on Cartoon Network's late-night Adult Swim block, where it has run at least once a year ever since. It charts the misadventures of a space-ridden chainsmoking bounty hunter named Spike Speigel and his crew of planet-jumping misfits.
Last year, Netflix announced a live-action adaptation of the show, starring John Cho as Spike. However, production was delayed on account of a on-set injury sustained by Cho last year. Luckily, you can still run the animated series back on Hulu.
