Temporary stoppage funding has been passed through the Senate to reopen the federal government through Jan. 30 in exchange for a near-future vote on ACA funding.

The government shutdown could be nearing its end. Republican leaders are trying to push a funding bill after the Senate Sunday night approved a deal moving toward reopening the government. The White House endorsed a federal funding measure that eight Democrats joined Republicans to advance, in exchange for a future vote on extending enhanced Affordable Care subsidies. The extension is not yet guaranteed.

Now, Senators need to agree on how long they can debate before voting on the final bill. This could possibly be delayed by senators who want to drag things out. The House will have to return and adopt the deal struck in the Senate before it is sent to the President’s desk to be signed.

Members of the House have been advised to expect votes this week. House Speaker Mike Johnson has to sell this package to his majority, and he’ll need the president to get it through the conference.

According to CNN, the full bill includes a larger funding package negotiated between the two parties and a stopgap through Jan. 30. The broader legislative package would include three full-year appropriations bills that deal with military construction and veterans affairs, the legislative branch and the Department of Agriculture.

It comes as the general public’s frustration over the government shutdown has seemingly grown. President Donald Trump attended the Nov. 9 NFL game between the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions, where there were audible boos from the crowd. Trump was in the broadcaster’s booth during the game, and he took part in a Veterans Day halftime event.

An appeals court paused the Trump administration’s effort to block fully paying food stamp benefits in November, as many who receive SNAP benefits are still worried about their benefits running out. Additionally, more staffing issues are being reported at airports after the worst weekend for air staffing since the start of the shutdown.
