Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani becomes New York City’s first Muslim mayor and its youngest since 1892.

Zohran Mamdani has scored a historic win as the next mayor of New York City. Mamdani, a Democrat, landed a decisive victory over former governor Andrew Cuomo with more than 97% of the votes counted. According to The Guardian, Mamdani received more votes – at least 1.03 million – than all the other candidates combined, including Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

As expected, Mamdani’s win has sparked reactions across social media.
