Dennis Edwards, Lead Singer Of The Temptations, Dead At 74

Dennis Edwards, best known as the lead singer of R&B group the Temptations, has passed away at the age of 74. He would have been 75 on Saturday.

Edwards died in Chicago, with his death confirmed to CBS News by his family. The family didn't disclose the cause of his death.

Born February 3, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama, had sung in the Contours before becoming the lead singer for the Temptations. Edwards sung on a number of hit songs from the group including "I Can't Get Next to You," "Ball of Confusion," and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone."

By 1976, Edwards had left the Temptations and was on and off with the group from the early '80s until the late '80s. Edwards also scored a solo hit with "Don't Look Any Further," which made it to Number 72 on the pop chart and Number 2 on the R&B chart.

The song later became a popular sample in hip-hop music, popping up in Eric B. and Rakim's "Paid in Full," 2Pac's "Hit 'Em Up," and Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s "Getting' Money" with the Notorious B.I.G.

A number of people on social media have paid their respect to Edwards.
