Will Smith Raps The 'Fresh Prince' Theme Song With Fans Worldwide For 'Bel-Air' Premiere

Prepping the inaugural season of Peacock reboot Bel-Air, Will Smith introduces the iconic theme song to Gen-Z in a Super Bowl Commercial.

Beloved '90s series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is being introduced to a new generation. Airing on Super Bowl Sunday, Peacock has released a new commercial teasing upcoming dramatic reboot Bel-Airwhich also premieres on Sunday. In the commercial, Bel-Air's OG Fresh Prince Will Smith raps the original theme song with virtual help from fans worldwide.

In the 1-minute and 20-second spotlight, the commercial begins with Smith FaceTiming someone who beatboxes the iconic theme song, joined by other friends virtually who perform the song with various instruments. The clip then ends with a gleeful Smith proclaiming "That's hot, that's hot."

Bel-Air will be a dramatic retelling of the original '90s sitcom, with direction and co-writing from Morgan CooperBel-Air was inspired by Cooper's 2019 viral short film that had a similar dramatic format.

"With this dramatic reimagining, we wanted to create a show that stands on its own while honoring the spirit and innovation of the original series," Cooper said in a press release. "Because Bel-Air is a drama, we're able to really peel back the layers of these characters and themes in a way that you simply couldn't do 30 years ago in the half-hour sitcom format. We're able to go have tough conversations that challenge perspectives. At its core, Bel-Air is a celebration of the Black experience through the perspective of a family."

Fans will be re-introduced to the the character of Will Smith (Jabari Banks) who relocates from West Philly to live with his Banks Family relatives, Phillip Banks (Adrian Holmes), Vivian Banks (Cassandra Freeman), Carlton Banks (Olly Sholotan), Hilary Banks (Coco Jones) and Ashley Banks (Akira Akbar). Jimmy Akingbola, Jordan L. Jones and Simone Joy Jones appears as Geoffrey, Jazz and Lisa, respectively.

The commercial is set to air during the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 13th. Bel-Air will also premiere its first three episodes on Peacock the same day.
