Is This 19-Second Clip a Sign A New Kendrick Lamar Project is On the Way?

Top Dawg Entertainment has sparked more speculation of a new Kendrick Lamar release.

The rap game has been waiting for a new release from Kendrick Lamar since 2017's DAMN. Last year, rumors began swirling when People Magazine posted photos of what seemed to be a new music video shoot. On Wednesday, Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith got the Twitter world speculating again with a 19-second video. "The wait is ovah!," he wrote.

The video features no audio, and Top Dawg hasn't given any clues about what the release is. The only thing officially announced in the video is that a new release is coming May 7th. Naturally, the knee-jerk reaction was that the announcement was revealing a new Kendrick Lamar project. If so, it'd be his first new release since he executive produced and contributed to the Black Panther soundtrack. However, it could very well be (and is honestly more likely) a new project from SZA or Isaiah Rashad. Both artists also haven't released full-length projects in years.

After a notable absence--and public disputes with Tiffith--SZA in particular dropped three singles in 2020: "The Other Side" with Justin Timberlake, "Hit Different" with Ty Dolla $ign, and "Good Days." She kept the momentum going with a guest appearance on Doja Cat's "Kiss Me More."

Back in 2019, Isaiah Rashad announced that his next project would be called The House is Burning, previewing a new track on Instagram Live. The project would be his first in five years, since the cult favorite The Sun's Tirade. Back in February, Tiffith posted video of Rashad shooting a music video with Memphis rapper Duke Deuce. The song is yet to be released.

Stay tuned for further updates on Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and Top Dawg Entertainment.
