The Sons of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, & Swizz Beats Will Star in a Movie Together
The sons of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Swizz Beats are trying to make a name for themselves in the movie industry.
Dr. Dre's oldest son, Curtis Young, is trying to make his own mark in the entertainment industry. Young, who was once a rapper called the Hood Surgeon, is getting ready to star in a new movie called Charge It to the Game.
The movie, which is a coming of age story centered around four best friends, will also be scored by Young. Here's where things become more interesting: Young will co-star in the movie with the sons of Snoop Dogg and Swizz Beats. According to TMZ, Yong's brother will be played by Julian Broadus, middle child of Snoop, while Swizz Beat's oldest son, Nasir Dean, is playing one of the four friends. (Nasir, will also be helping Young out with the score.)
Young has been trying to break from under his father's shadow — while still reminding people he's Dr. Dre's son — for years. During the 2000s, he was rapping as the Hood Surgeon, releasing the Of A Doctor album 2007. In the early 2010s, when producers were casting Straight Outta Compton, it was rumored that the sons of all the legends would be cast as the main stars. This turned out to be false — only Ice Cube's song, O'Shea Jackson Jr., was picked to play his iconic father. Young tried out for Dr. Dre but the part ended up going to Corey Hawkins. In an interview with XXL, Young talked about the decision his father, Dr. Dre, made:
"I actually tried out for the role, 'cause the casting company called me. But my father [Dr. Dre] wanted somebody with more acting experience, and I haven't been acting for a long time, so I'm happy for the guy that got the role. It's one of those things where we want what's best for the movie and for the film. I had a lot of fans that were upset about it, but whatever's best for the film, that presents it in that light, then I'm for it."
There is no release date for Charge It to the Game.
