The animated film's voice cast will also feature Questlove, Phylicia Rashad and Daveed Diggs.

Disney and Pixar has released the first trailer for its forthcoming new movie Soul.

The trailer begins with Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx), a middle school music teacher who dreams of being a jazz performer.

"We only have a short time on this planet," Gardner says. "You want to become the person you were born to be. Don't waste your time on all the junk of life. Spend your precious hours doing what will bring out the real you, the brilliant passionate you that's willing to contribute something meaningful to this world."

Right as Gardner gets a notable gig, he accidentally dies, sending his soul to the "You Seminar," an ethereal and cosmic space where he meets another soul by the name of 22 (voiced by Tina Fey).

Pete Docter, the director of Soul, recently spoke with EW about the forthcoming film and how the representation of soul's was inspired by conversations he had with religious experts.

"We talked to a lot of folks that represented religious traditions and cultural traditions and [asked], 'What do you think a soul is?'" Docter said. "All of them said 'vaporous' and 'ethereal' and 'non-physical.' We were like, 'Great! How do we do this?' We're used to toys, cars, things that are much more substantial and easily referenced. This was a huge challenge, but I gotta say, I think the team really put some cool stuff together that's really indicative of those words but also relatable."

Soul, which also features Questlove, Phylicia Rashad and Daveed Diggs, will be out June 19, 2020.
