Rihanna Paid Homage to André Leon Talley with Her Super Bowl LVII Outfit

While performing during the Super Bowl LVII halftime show, Rihanna homaged late Vogue editor-at-large and fashion icon André Leon Talley.

Rihanna paid tribute to late friend and fashion icon, André Leon Talley, with her extravagant coat at the Super Bowl LVII. During the highly-praised halftime performance, the 34-year-old artist wore a full-length red Alaïa puffer that resembled Talley's signature Norma Kamali sleeping bag coat.

While the 9-time Grammy Award winner performed hits including "Where Have You Been," "Work" and "Diamonds," she unveiled a surprise baby bump, nine months after having her first son with rapper A$AP Rocky.

Talley – who was the first Black creative director at Vogue from 1988 to 1995 – died on January 18, 2022 in White Plains, New York due to complications of a heart attack and COVID-19.

During his life, Talley long adored Rih, who he complimented during the Met Gala 2015, where the singer and business mogul wore a dramatic Guo Pei design for the event's "China: Through the Looking Glass" theme.

“I love a girl from humble beginnings who becomes a big star,” Talley said about Rihanna's look in 2016 Met Gala documentary, The First Monday in May. “It’s like the American dream. That’s the way you do it.”

Talley's Norma Kamali coat is up for auction at Christie's along with a number of items from his personal fashion collection. Also included in the collection are Chanel jewelry, Louis Vuitton luggage and Karl Lagerfeld sketches. With the estate sale estimated to generate $725,000, the auction will benefit causes that Talley supported throughout his life, including the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York and Mount Sinai Baptist Church in North Carolina. Auction for Talley's collection begins February 15.
