Swizz Beatz has cleared up one rumor regarding Jay-Z and DMX.

In the past week, numerous rumors regarding DMX have been circulated and subsequently refuted. On Monday, Swizz Beatz rebuffed one more unsubstantiated claim circulating on social media. In the wake of X’s passing on April 9th, a rumor surfaced that Jay-Z and Beyonce had purchased his masters and publishing and agreed to donate the profits to his children.

On Monday, Swizz responded to a post about the situation on Instagram, simply stating “Not true king.”

DMX’s family also addressed the rumors surrounding his masters, saying in a statement: “There have been a few rumors following our loved one, Earl Simmons’, passing that we’d like to clear up. No one has bought Earl’s masters.”

In that same statement, the family also advised fans to be mindful of scammers claiming they’re raising money for the rapper’s funeral, saying: “Additionally, we are not selling any merch or raising money for Earl’s funeral.  If anyone is requesting for money for his funeral please be aware the person is a scammer. We will keep the public posted on funeral/memorial service arrangements.”

Upon the announcement of his passing, DMX’s 1998 single “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” surged to the number-one spot on iTunes’ United States charts. Former label-mates, collaborators, and artists inspired by his music shared their condolences for the family.

It isn’t the first time Jay-Z has been rumored to have purchased another artist’s masters. Back in September, during Kanye West’s ongoing public dispute with Sony and Universal Music Group, rumors swirled that Jay had sold the rights to the masters from West’s first six albums. Kanye quickly replied on Twitter the following day.

“Don’t let the system pit us against each other,” he wrote. “Jay is my brother…I have eternal love for all artists that have been through and are still trapped [in] this crooked system. Jay still doesn’t get his own masters back for ten years. I will see to it that we all get our masters.” After he was criticized for holding a majority percentage of his G.O.O.D. Music roster’s masters, the backlash led Kanye to granted his artists their wishes.

Stay tuned for further updates on the situation.
