NBA Announces Plans to Honor Kobe and Gianna Bryant With All-Star Game Jerseys
Team LeBron will wear number 2, while Team Giannis will wear number 24.
The National Basketball Association has officially announced its plans to honor the late Kobe and Gianna Bryant. On Friday afternoon, the league released a statement regarding the upcoming tribute. Read the statement in full on the official NBA website. Team LeBron James will wear number 2, in honor of Gianna Bryant. Team Giannis Antetokounpo will wear number 24, in honor of Kobe Bryant.
Additionally, both all-star teams will wear jersey patches displaying nine stars, to represent the nine total victims of the crash. All participants in All-Star Weekend will wear the patches on their jersey. The league’s rookies and sophomores will also wear the patches in the NBA Rising Stars game.
Members of the media previously suggested that the two teams wear number 8 or 24 in honor of Kobe Bryant’s two numbers. Rosters for each team will be revealed on TNT in a special 2020 NBA All-Star Draft presented by Jordan Brand show on Thursday, February 6 at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
All-Star Weekend will be held in Chicago this year. The Rising Stars Game will take place Friday, February 14 at 9 p.m. The Taco Bell Skills Challange, MTN DEW 3-Point Contest, and AT&T Slam Dunk will air Saturday, February 15 at 8 p.m. The All-Star Game will air on TNT Sunday, February 16 at 8 p.m.
