Michael Che is making history
Starting next season. Michael Che will have a new role on Saturday Night Live. NBC has announced that Che, who is the co-anchor on Weekend Update, will join the head writing team of SNL. This is notable because Che will become the first non-white head writer in SNL’s 42 year history.
Also joining the head writing team is Colin Jost, who co-anchors Weekend Update with Che.
Che and Jost will join Kent Sublette and Bryan Tucker, who are currently head writers. Che has been on SNL since 2013. Only a year later he was promoted to co-anchor chair.
For Jost, this is the second time he’ll hold the job. He was head writer from 2012 to 2015, but then stepped down to focus on the anchor chair.
