Keith Sweat, Bryan Michael Cox, and Jermaine Dupri made cameos.
On Monday night, two of Atlanta’s iconic R&B groups joined up for the latest Verzuz battle. Despite their share of technical difficulties, the battle was a nice trip down memory lane.
After the night started with sound issues, both groups jumped right into the hits. Jagged Edge kicked things off with “He Can’t Love U,” and 112 countered with “It’s Over Now.”
Jagged Edge kept things going with “Girl It’s Over,” “Wednesday Lover,” and the “Promise” remix. 112 held serve with “Come See Me,” “Now That We’re Done,” and “U Already Know.”
Two songs later, the groups gave one of the most contested rounds when Jagged Edge dropped “Walked Outta Heaven.” The track is their second-best performing single, peaking at number six on the Billboard Hot 100. 112 countered with “Cupid.”
The certified platinum single from their debut peaked at number 13 on the Hot 100, and number two on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart. The track earned 112 their third top 40 entry.
In the next round, Keith Sweat made a surprise appearance, joining 112 for the battle.
Jagged Edge kept things going with “Goodbye” and “Remedy” from Jagged Little Thrill. Afterward, the groups put their collaborations with the Notorious B.I.G. head-to-head. JE dropped “Nasty Girl,” from the posthumous Duets album, while 112 dropped “Sky’s the Limit” from Life After Death.
Jagged Edge recovered with the “Promise” remix, “Trade it All Pt. 2,” “Good Luck Charm,” and Nivea’s “Don’t Mess With My Man.”
After dropping Slim’s solo single “So Fly,” 112 dug into their bag of Bad Boy remixes. They dropped their “Dance For Me” and “Only You” remixes.
By the end of the battle, however, technical issues arose yet again. 112 closed things out with “Peaches & Cream” and the Billboard number one Biggie tribute “I’ll Be Missing You.” However, these were only their 18th and 19th songs.
Jagged Edge’s finale was, understandably, “Where The Party At.” The group also announced and previewed tracks from an upcoming album. Stay tuned for further updates on the album.
