Donald Trump on Police Brutality: "More White People" Killed By Police

Donald Trump spoke with CBS News on Tuesday.

The 45th President of the United States is at it again. On Tuesday, Donald Trump spoke with CBS News senior investigative correspondent Catherin Herridge at the White House.

Herridge asked Trump about the killing of George Floyd, to which Trump referred to as "terrible." She went on to ask why Black Americans are "still dying at the hands of law enforcement in this country." According to CBS, Trump "appeared to bristle" at the question.

"So are white people," Trump replied. "So are white people. What a terrible question to ask. So are white people...more white people, by the way. More white people."

While in a vacuum, more white people are killed by the police, that is due to the fact that white people make up over 60 percent of the American population. According to the 2010 United States Census, Black and Multiracial African-Americans make up only 14 percent of the American population.

A 2018 study by the scientific journal PLOS ONE found that Black men are nearly 3.5 times more likely to killed by a police officer than white men. CBS also cited a 2019 study by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that found one in a thousand Black men in America can expect to die at the hands of a police officer in the course of their lifetime. According to the study, for young men of color, police use of force is among the leading causes of death between the ages of 20 and 35 years old.
