"Words Can't Describe How I Feel'": Diddy, Joey Bada$$ React to Oscar Win

Diddy is celebrating his second Oscar award win as a producer.

On Sunday, the 2021 Academy Awards proceeded after a nearly three-month delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was a historic occasion, with Chloe Zhao becoming the first woman of color to win Best Director for Nomadland. It was a big night for hip-hop as well, with Diddy and Joey Bada$$ taking home awards for their contributions to Two Distant Strangers, which took home the award for Best Live-Action Short Film.

"I'm incredibly blessed to win my second Oscar as a producer," Diddy wrote on Instagram. "For Undefeated and now Two Distant Strangers! Words can't describe how I feel right now winning alongside my brothers."

Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe directed the film, which follows a young Black man (played by Joey) who gets killed by a police officer, only to wake up every subsequent day reliving the altercation that leads to his death.

"Today, the police will kill three people," Free said in his acceptance speech. "Tomorrow, the police will kill three people. And the day after that...because on average the police in America every day kill three people, which amounts to about a thousand people a year. And those people happen to disproportionately be Black people...I just ask that you please not be indifferent. Please don't be indifferent to our pain."

NBA players Kevin Durant and Mike Conley also served as executive producers for the film, which premiered on Netflix on November 2020. James Poyser scored the film.
