The corner of Ludlow Street and Rivington Street on the Lower East Side in New York City will soon be renamed,

Nearly a decade after the for proposal to rename Ludlow Street and Rivington Street as “Beastie Boys Square” was denied, a renewed application has been approved. The corner was immortalized on the album cover for the group’s 1989 sophomore album Paul’s Boutique, making it their unofficial homebase.

With final authorization needed to be given from Mayor Eric Adams, once the bill is approved, a street sign honoring group members Michael “Mike D” Diamond, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, and the late Adam “MCA” Yauch will go up.

According to PIX11, New York City council member Christopher Marte said the board approved to make “Beastie Boys Square” into a reality.

“As many of us know, once the Beastie Boys hit the scene, it really changed the Hip Hop game,” Marte said. “I see it as a celebration. A celebration for the Lower East Side, a celebration for Hip Hop and especially a celebration for our community who has been organizing for a really long time to make this happen.”

Although “Beastie Boys Square” is pending, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Paul’s Boutique, in 2013, a mural dedicated to the group was made outside of sandwich shop Wolfnights made by visual artist Danielle Mastrion. In the same year, a park in Brooklyn Heights was renamed Adam Yauch Park after the legendary Beastie Boys member died in 2012.

On August, a tribute event dedicated to the trio and Run D.M.C. named “Together Forever: Jam Master Jay + MCA” will be held at Adam Yauch Park with appearances from “special guests” throughout the day. A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to the estate of late photographer Ricky Powell, who often toured with and photographed the Beastie Boys.
