Big Freedia Preps First Album in Nine Years With New Single "Bigfoot"

In time for Pride Month, Bounce artist Big Freedia will release new album Central City on June 23.

New Orleans bounce artist Big Freedia is rolling out the red carpet on their new album Central City via Queen Diva Music. Leading with new singles “Bigfoot,” “Central City Freestyle” and “$100 Bill” featuring Ciara, the album is also set to include Kelly Price (“Motivate Ya”), Lil Wayne (“El Niño”), Faith Evans (“Bitch You Want”), Kamaiyah (“Big Tyme”) and more. In her own words, Freedia describes “Bigfoot” as "a powerful anthem of empowerment and motivation."

Central City marks Freedia’s first album in nine years, following her being sampled on Beyoncé’s “Formation” and “Break My Soul.” On her sophomore LP, Freedia, born Freddie Ross Jr., homages the evolution of bounce music. The album also marks Freedia’s latest since 2014’s Just Be Free.

"Bounce has been through many iterations — from Triggerman to Sissy to Cash Money Bounce — but my new album is something I call Bigga Bounce,” she said in a press statement. “Welcome to Central City, y'all, where I pay homage to my city, my roots, hip-hop, and to the art of creating a new sound."

Along with music, Ross has furthered her talents in acting and reality television. Last year, she starred in BET’s College Hill: Celebrity Edition, along with episodes of P-Valley and Queer As Folk. Next, the 45-year-old will go on a national tour, starting June 2 in Stanford, California, with additional dates in New Orleans, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Chicago, Memphis, Charlotte, and more before ending at the Wonderbus Music and Arts Festival in Columbus, Ohio.
