Pharrell & JAY-Z Celebrate Black Ownership on New Song "Entrepreneur"

Pharrell and JAY-Z reunite for a new song.

Pharrell has released a new song called "Entrepreneur." The track, which featuresJAY-Z', " was released alongside a video.

The video is a celebration of black entrepreneurs. The video features numerous entrepreneurial figures, from famous folks like Tyler, the Creator and Issa Rae to people who aren't as well-known, like TyAnthony Davis, founder of the school Vox Collegiate in Los Angeles and Debbie Allen the CEO of Tribe Midwifery

In the song, which was produced by Neptunes, JAY-Z raps:

"Black Twitter, what’s that? When Jack gets paid, do you? For every one Gucci, support two FUBU’s."

(Interestingly enough, JAY-Z was recently seen with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in the Hamptons. Not sure if Jay was rocking any FUBU.)

Before the song and video was released, TIME Magazine revealed their special cover project that was curated by Pharrell. In that issue, Pharrell discussed "Entrepreneur," saying that the song was "all about how tough it is to be an entrepreneur" in the United States.

He said:

"Especially as someone of color, there’s a lot of systemic disadvantages and purposeful blockages. How can you get a fire started, or even the hope of an ember to start a fire, when you’re starting at disadvantages with regards to health care, education, and representation?"

"The song is trying to communicate that when we stick together, treat each other better and welcome each other, there’s more money and more opportunity for everyone," he added.

Pharrell's curated special cover project for TIME, which is namedThe New American Revolution, featuresan essay from the producer himself, as well as conversations betweenTyler, the Creator and Kenya Barris,Angela Davis and Yara Shahidi, and others.

"In assembling this project, I asked some of the most qualified people I know in every field — from Angela Davis to Tyler, the Creator, to Representative Barbara Lee — to talk with us, and with one another, about the way forward," Pharrell wrote in his essay. "I wanted to convey a vision of a future filled with the artists, creators and entrepreneurs who can fulfill the promise of this country’s principles."
