Sango's Brilliant, Brazil-Inspired 'Da Rocinha III' LP Is Here

After months of preparation, prodigious beatmaker Sango has released Da Rocinha III, the final installment in a series that's seen him mix progressive, spaced-out drum work with Brazilian original sample material. Comprised of 19 tracks, the record is unquestionably the most realized and powerful material Sango has released, and will serve as a benchmark for not only his own future work, but that of any other producer who might hope to become his peer.

One of Da Rocinha III's standout songs, "Na Hora," was uploaded to SoundCloud Tuesday and is a worthwhile introduction to those unfamiliar with Sango's approach. (There is also, of course, "Me de Amor," a track that's become a signifying anthem for the entire Soulection movement.) "Na Hora" vibrates at a high frequency, the sound of cachaça and ice colliding in a bar shaker just before the party hits its peak. The song requires zero pre-existing knowledge of DR and/or Sango to enjoy at first listen, and covers sonic bases both guttural and gossamer--a perfect window into the producer's lamplit world.

On his Facebook profile, Sango described the new LP as being "about keeping the funk carioca roots true and paying homage to the ones that helped start it. I want to respect and show Rocinha in a positive light with this record while staying true to my sound." Listen to "Na Hora" below, and stream his entire, excellent piece of work over on his personal website.
