Prince Sets Billboard 200 Record With 5 Albums In Top 10

Nearing the 7 hours and 13 days mark since the world lost Prince and the purple funk lord is still tearing up the charts. Last week, we learned that since his tragic death, Prince's albums and songs had moved in upwards of 4 million units, shattering expectations, though we probably should have seen that coming.

Today, Billboard is reporting that not only did the week following his death yield some truly awe-worthy sales, but that for the first time in Billboard history, an artist has placed not one, two, three or four, but five albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart. That artist is, of course, the one forever and always known as Prince (except for that time that you couldn't actually call him that, but that's an entirely different discussion.) Chances are we'll only see this trend continue over the months ahead; a natural turn following the death of one of music's all-time greats.

The album's currently occupying those spots include The Very Best Of Prince (391,000 units, 216,000 copies sold,) Purple Rain (150,000 units, 133,000 copies sold) The Hits/The B-Sides (106,000 units, 56,000 copies sold) Ultimate (40,000 units, 37,000 copies sold) and 1999 (36,000 units, 33,000 copies sold,) all sitting at numbers 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7, respectively. With Ultimateentering the top 10 for the first time ever, Prince now holds the record for albums to have charted that high with 19 total. All hail The Purple One.
