Pass The Popcorn: Tatyana Ali Stars In The NBPC Sponsored Short Film 'Teachers'

In case you are unaware, PBS’ 2016 Online Film Festival is underway. The Film Fest showcases 25 indie short films. It all kicked off on the 11th and runs through July 29th. The National Black Programming Consortium has sponsored and entered a film entitled Teachers as one of the 25 entrants. The film stars Tatyana Ali in a role as an educator going to great lengths to help a student mired in family obligations and poverty. You can watch the trailer below.

The film was created as part of Project Involve, Film Independent’s free, intensive, nine-month annual program that helps nurture the creative talents of up-and-coming film professionals from under-represented communities. Directed by Mark Columbus and written by Jason Park, Teachers takes up the educational crisis in high-poverty areas. It stars Ali as a teacher trying to motivate her failing student, who is facing family troubles.

The festival will be available via PBS and station digital platforms, including pbs.org, YouTube and PBS social media channels.You can watch and vote for your favorite films via their site.
