From The Marcy Projects To Roc Nation: Jay-Z Shares Inspirational Poem "Dream. On."

Source: Tidal

The minute-and-a-half video finds Jay-Z revisiting his old Marcy Project building and offering a spoken word poem accompanied by various shots of the apartment room he lived in growing up.

"I'm from where dreaming ain't allowed/Especially when you're dreaming aloud," he begins. "Enough to dream your self-esteem into clouds."

From there the poem continues while various scenes showcase the apartment (5C) the rapper used to live in as a child. The apartment has stripped ceilings and old appliances but what contrasts these images are more lighthearted scenes such as pictures of a young Jay-Z, a microphone connected to a mixer, and a collection of lyrics written in a notebook alongside a tape recorder.

"You are whatever you say you are/Turn any situation around/Who...are...you? God," the 4:44 rapper and entrepreneur concludes the video with.

"Dream. On." was done in collaboration with Budweiser.

Recently, Jay ranked his top six albums and referred to Vol. 2 as his Thriller and The Blueprint as his Off The Wall. He also discussed Blue Ivy Carter's guest verse on 4:44 bonus track “Blue’s Freestyle/We Family.”

"She went and she got the headphones and she climbed on her little stool and then she started rapping," Jay-Z said. "And the pocket she was catching I was like s**t. I'm talking amazing pockets…she understands the concept of a hook. She's five."
