Kendrick Lamar To Be Stephen Colbert's First CBS 'Late Show' Guest

Stephen Colbert has announced that his first musical guest on CBS's The Late Show will be Kendrick Lamar. Speaking during a Television Critics Association press tour, the host-to-be shared news Monday.

In a way, Colbert is picking up right where he left off: Lamar was the final musical guest on The Colbert Report and gave an unforgettably intense performance which, in many ways, foreshadowed the avant-jazz styles of his brilliant To Pimp A Butterfly LP. Of course, the jury's still out on which track Lamar will perform this time around, or whether or not he'll be bringing the likes of Bilal, Thundercat, Anna Wise and Terrace Martin back with him--but here's hoping.

In a tweet, Colbert also confirmed that film mega-star George Clooney will be his first sit-down guest.

When Lamar takes the stage he won't be the only brilliant, young and black bandleader in the building; Jon Batiste is also currently preparing for his role as bandleader for Colbert's entire program. When asked at Monday's press tour about Batiste, Colbert quipped "I can’t wait to play off his energy on stage.”

The CBS Late show restarts on September 8th. For old time's sake, watch Lamar perform "Untitled" on Colbert's now-defunct Comedy Central show below.
