Spurs Trade Kawhi Leonard to the Raptors Despite the Fact He Doesn't Want to Play for the Raptors

The NBA offseason has more drama than the regular NBA season.

On Wednesday morning, July 18th, the San Antonio Spurs traded superstar Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to the Toronto Raptors for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a first-round pick.

ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski reported the story first:

What makes things interesting is that the fact that Leonard doesn't want to play for the Toronto Raptors and DeRozan doesn't want to play for the San Antonio Spurs.

Woj says that Leonard, who only has one year left on his contract, is not ecstatic about playing in Toronto. And DeRozan is clearly upset about the developments. On his Instagram page he posted a message saying "Be told one thing & the outcome another. Can't trust em. Ain't no loyalty in this game. Sell you out quick for a little bit of nothing... Soon you'll understand... Don't disturb..."

Leonard has made it clear to officials that he plans on signing with the LA Lakers next year. So his time in Toronto will be short.

Maybe Drake can convince him to stay:

DeRozan has three years and $83 million left on his contract. But he has an early-termination option for the 2020-21 season.
