Kanye West Accepts Visionary Award AT The BET Honors + Speaks At Length About Race, Relationships & Finding His Humble

This was taped so long ago I completely forgot about it! BET aired their January taping of The BET Honors earlier this evening (hosted by Wayne Brady). One of the more memorable portions of the evening was Kanye West’s acceptance of The Visionary Award. I know, but don’t worry, the only truly cringe-worthy part of this was Dame Dash’s awkward presentation of the award. As for Kanye’s actual speech, I think if he gave more of them in this direction, he’d be doing much better in the court of public opinion (not that he does or should care about that).

For nearly 9 minutes, Yeezy talks about finally feeling humility, interracial relationships (“It ain’t got nothin’ to do with the money”), racism, the modern day slave mentality and more. I’m not going to sit and act like this speech was groundbreaking or will put you onto some ish you’ve never heard before, but it came across as sincere (imo) and touched on some issues that can’t be touched on enough. Under his speech, watch a tribute video to Kanye featuring commentary from Common, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, and more. In other Kanye news, it has just been announced that the first date of his upcoming tour with Rihanna will be July 25th in Tallinn, Estonia. So if you’re in Estonia, or Estonia adjacent, go ahead and get at Live Nation on March 5th when tix go on sale.
