Hip-Hop And High School Mix In The New Trailer For 'Dope'

Be prepared to relive some classic bits of 90s hip-hop culture in the brand new trailer for Dope, the fast-approaching new film by director Rick Famuyiwa produced by both Forest Whitaker and Pharrell Williams's i am OTHER company. With painstaking set design, a fantastic soundtrack, and a live wire cast, Dope tells the story of Malcolm, an Inglewood high school student who has his sights set on Harvard. A punk rocker with a taste for 90s hip-hop (and a ridiculously clean flat-top), Malcolm has run-ins with bitcoins, drug dealers, and more than a few strange classmates as he tries to find his way as a brilliant black teenager whose tastes don't fit into any one box. A brand new trailer for Dope has just been released, and it's a delicious teaser of the film's vibrant dialogue (set to Kendrick Lamar's "i"), one that has us counting the days until its June 19th release. The film stars A$AP Rocky, Vince Staples, Tyga alongside lead actor Shameik Moore.

Dope's latest trailer introduces us to Malcolm's world, and gives us glimpses of just a few of the uphill battles he faces throughout the film (full disclosure: Okayplayer caught an early screening at the Sundance Film Festival). Watch the new preview below and be ready for Dope to drop in early summer.
