The big homie Skyzoo‘s been traveling the globe the last few months on his A Dream Deferred tour. Last month, he made a stop off in Merseille, France for a show. Back in February, we hipped you to an upcoming documentary from director Kareem Fort, Demos, starring an all-star lineup of emcees detailing the indie grind and their rise to success. With the lineup that doc is boasting, you had to assume the soundtrack would be crazy, as well. For the first official single, we get the doc’s narrator (Skyzoo) and Torae aka The Barrel Brothers joining forces for “The Get Up.” Demos (the film) will see an online release on May 22nd and will be accompanied by a soundtrack featuring Rapper Big Pooh, Planet Asia, Tanya Morgan, King Mez, Truck North, Supastition, and more. Now when is this Barrell Brothers album gonna happen?

Writer/director Stacey Muhammad presents the dramatic web-series For Colored Boys, Redemption – a show that focuses on fictional protagonist Benjamin Boyd, a man returning home from prison and attempting to rebuild his life. The story details the familial and societal obstacles he faces as an ex-con, absentee father and husband in search of another chance. Rapper Skyzoo has signed on as one of three producers working to complete the series. He will also appear on-screen as a member of the cast. The show stars Pariah‘s Rob Morgan as lead character Benjamin Boyd. The cast also includes The Wire‘s Julito McCullum, veteran actor Tim Reid, Tai Phoenix, Kai Muhammad and artist Danny Simmons amongst others. The series is currently running an online fundraising campaign to complete production of the first season of For Colored Boys, Redemption. Scroll down for details.

Also not to be missed, Sky dropped the fourth and final joint off his 4 part freestyle series, Band Practice, yesterday. He borrows the production of Carlos Nino and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson for “Ticker Tape Parade.” Hard to choose a favorite of the four, but you can go ahead and try (1, 2, 3).

On February 19th, Skyzoo will be bringing a unique live jazz concert experience to MIST in Harlem with his event, The Writings of Skyzoo. Hosted by Angela Yee, the show will feature Sky performing select songs from his catalog with a 7-piece band featuring  Keyboardist Aaron Hardin (En Vogue, Pusha T, Eric Roberson), Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Jessy Wilson (John Legend, Keyshia Cole, Fantasia, Ledisi), R&B sensation Chris Turner (Esperanza Spalding, Bilal), Drummer Steve Mckie (Bilal, Robert Glasper, Vivian Green) and more. Pardon the lateness, but after hitting us with an action packed behind the scenes clip featuring Spike Lee, Gayle King, and Talib Kweli, Skyzoo dropped the full video for “Spike Lee Was My Hero,” the other day. After all the build up, the official vid for the Talib Kweli assisted track doesn’t disappoint at all (Tall Black Guy on the beat). Video directed by Alex Ghassan. Having given Bonz Malone a platform to air out legendary director Spike Lee for his criticism of Django Unchained, some equal time may be in order. To give Spike his propers, he did make himself available and give generously of his time when he received word that fellow Brooklynite Skyzoo was shooting a video for a song called “Spike Lee Was My Hero” (produced by Tall Black Guy)–not only agreeing to make a cameo onscreen but providing a few pointers about the production as well. Watching the two build on set (talking Knicks, no doubt) is a pretty unique “life imitates art” moment that could only happen in Brooklyn, as we see in this behind-the-scenes video ‘zoo released today. The illustrious Talib Kweli and–randomly–CBS anchorwoman Gayle King also make cameos that keep this clip far more watchable than run of the mill behind-the-scenes filler.
