Okayafrica Audio: Zakee - "Drop Hitter"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Last time we spent some serious quality time with Zakee, he had dropped a stop motion music video for 2011's "Take it Easy," off of Assimilations. That doesn't mean he hasn't been busy, though, as Okayafrica has been steady documenting. Now, he is releasing his sophomore LP, titled Rise of The Rebels: Assimilations. The first single from the album, titled "Drop Hitter," can be heard below. With a dirty, catchy hook, and speedy dope verses by Zakee, the track is a banger. Produced by Twelve Bit Media, the album sees him build on his creative combination of electronica, hip hop beats, and pop styles. Dakar-rooted Philly rapper Zakee recently shared “Drop Hitter,” a track that lives in the same sonic vein as his latesthood anthem.  The self-produced tune, written under his Zakee Kuduro moniker, is booming match-up of high-end synths, trap beats and a Lil’ Wayne-esque chorus (in the best way possible). Stream “Drop Hitter” below. Attention songwriters: enter Zakee and Green For All‘s The Dream Reborn song competition for a chance to get a free music video made + $$$ prizes.
