Want To Drop Your Next Mixtape...On Vinyl? A New Crowdfund Could Make It Possible

A Portland-based group of vinyl record manufacturers is hoping to make it easier for emerging artists to get their music pressed onto records--even if that means making one sheeny black disk at a time. Super Specific Vinyl on Demand has kicked off an indiegogo crowdfunding campaign in hopes of making it possible to press a la carte records and in turn make an indie artist's dreams of finally landing their single on wax (or a casual music-lover making their favorite mixtape playable on a turntable).

It's all made possible by the use of a lathe, and meeting their fundraising goal of approximately $20,00 will allow Super Specific to purchase two more of the machines. "Making records this way allows us to do extremely short runs of an album or single. The sound quality and durability of the records is excellent," the group said. No plans for art or sleeve designs are currently on the table, so those looking to beautify their one-off records will have to turn elsewhere. The best part of the entire campaign? Making a donation nets you a place in line for your selection of music to be made on the lathe, guaranteeing that those generous to donate will, in due time, hear their music in a sweet, warm analog form. Depending on how much you're willing to give, you may be able to receive a single 7" record, or as many as 20 12" singles!

At press time, Super Specific Vinyl on Demand had raised just over $3,000 and has a month to go before their campaign ends. But with so many obvious uses for their service (gifts, very special promos, or even donation incentives for artists' own crowdfunding campaigns), this is one charity collection we can absolutely get behind.
