Watch The First Trailer For Netflix's 'Dear White People' Series

UPDATE: Following the trailer and release date announcement of Dear White People, a number of white people have canceled their Netflix accounts, and voiced their opposition to the series via Twitter. Someone even said that it “promotes white genocide,” which absolutely makes no sense considering in that 34 second teaser there is nothing that remotely suggests a white genocide.

A trailer for the forthcoming Dear White People Netflix series has been released.

The 30 second clip gives us a glimpse of what the series will be about, with biracial student Samantha White broadcasting what Halloween costumes are appropriate and not appropriate for her white classmates at Winchester University to wear on her “Dear White People” radio show.

“Dear white people. Here’s a list of acceptable Halloween costumes,” White begins. “Pirates, slutty nurse, any of our first 43 presidents. Top of the list of unacceptable costumes — me.”

The trailer then transitions to images of white people in blackface, before a group of black students crash what seems to be a predominantly white Halloween party.

The announcement that a Dear White People Netflix series was happening, came about several months ago in a report from Variety. The series will follow a similar narrative to its film counterpart, which is based on director Justin Simien‘s own experiences at a predominantly white school.

Simien will write the series and direct all 10 episodes, while Lionsgate Television (who also co-released the film of the same name two years ago) will produce the show.

Brandon P. Bell will be reprising his role as Troy Fairbanks, and Logan Browning (Tyler Perry‘s Meet The Browns and VH1’s Hit The Floor) will be taking the lead role of Samantha White (originally played by Tessa Thompson).

Nia Long is also part of the cast. Long will portray an African American studies professor at Winchester University with whip-smart intellect and unflappable confidence, whose pulled together professional life contrasts a more complicated personal one.

Dear White People will premiere this year on the online streaming service on April 28. Check out the teaser trailer for the forthcoming series below.

    Looks racist. I’ll pass thanks.

    • http://dontloseyourdayjob.com/ @KevitoClark

Thank goodness someone has some sense, am I right?

    • amondeonte

Most White people fail to actually know the definition of Racist. Look it up.

    • aronjorge

And I guess you think you are the expert, right?

    • Jacob Lee Thompson

“showing or feeling discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or believing that a particular race is superior to another.”

In the trailer, she points out how she is societally viewed as inferior to whites- as they mock her race with blackface. She says it’s not okay to do this for
Halloween. There are white people who generally have no idea wearing blackface is completely fucked up. That is only the tip of the iceberg.

She is not lashing out and saying blacks are better- and she can’t, society tells us otherwise too much for that to even be an argument. That’s why ‘reverse racism’ is a silly concept- but anyway.. It is expected that anyone who would rather wait for the next bus than sit next to a black person on a bus, is the same person who will argue that this show is stupid and racist.

    • Daniel Snø

Promoting the idea that if people are doing something that you dislike you have the right to enter their home, assault them and destroy their property is disgusting. This series directly portrays that as a normal and acceptable action. If you think that is justifiable then you are in the wrong. Is that so hard to understand?

    • Jacob Lee Thompson

Where is that behavior depicted in the trailer??

    • John Blanton

And yet when black people dress up in ‘whiteface’ it is called parody. I call bullshit on that argument

    • amondeonte

      R.i.g.h.t., as in,…….correct.

    • Apollo

wrong I grew up in a 85% black neighborhood and have no problem sitting on a bus or sitting at the dinner table with black people I actually would have more in common with a black gang member than a white golfer or even a white gang member. I don’t like racism in any form this is just another show to point out racism and even though it acts like it’s done for laughs it still makes people think the races look at eachother the way they did in the 50’s seriously when was the last time you saw anybody in blackface? that is designed to re open old wounds it’s also designed to make white people angry and in the end it is a divide and conquer tactic because it will create more division than unity. and unity is what we all need. wasn’t it bad when white people said dear black people here is a list of drinking fountains and seats that are appropriate for black people. division and racism of any type prevent us from advancement and becoming a country that all of us can be proud of

    • Al Lawrence

Well said. And the main people keeping racism alive is the media

    • amondeonte

Hahahahahahahaahahaha…….., “I’m not a RACIST, I have Black Friends…………..the Oh So Common, White reply……… LOL!!

    • Apollo

Ok so I hate my black brother in law and my mixed nephew’s? You just want white people to be racist so no answer will be any thing but a black racists answer and when you meet white racists don’t be anything but happy because that’s what you want.

    • Harrington M Erica

This here, is the definition of defining that you are what???? having black friends, being in a gang, but highlighting white people golf ( WHEN ) Tiger Woods is the best bi-racial black Golfer in the world. You exposed what you really believe black men are… We don’t need your history lesson. Go spread the word when you see your white friends acting racist.. That’s your role.

    • 9november

The ‘white golfer’ is a white stereotype. stop being willfully ignorant.

    • madmex2k

In your own words, I will paraphrase, “It still makes people think”

    • 9november

and most people don’t realize that the word racist came from a time when we all believed people of different ethnicity’s were different races with its own hierarchy.

also when you belittle an ethnicity in this way of having to do, what seems to be, a public announcement for a simple concept that their ‘inferior’ minds can’t possibly understand without it being spelled out to them. yes that is racist. and fits the Google definition involving superiority.

    • LSUbaby

But I bet you don’t think a person following a black or hispanic around a store because they think because of their race they will steal, is racist. Or maybe you just think they are doing their job, though the white couple in the corner is stealing the whole time. More than likely now you think I am racist since I pointed out one of the many racist/bigoted things that happen everyday, because that is all the movie does.

    • Apollo

not at all. any time I want to steal I wear a nice suit. nobody follows the guy in a nice suit. why do you think mobsters wore them? and politicians? the reason black people get followed in stores is because the media shows more crime committed by black people. nobody ever thinks the Asian guy will break the law why? japan and china as well as all Asian countries have full prisons. because we are being programmed to hate each other. by people who want us all fighting so they can steal from us and take our rights away. by saying blacks need government to protect them from cops and whites need government to protect us from minorities and all of us need government to protect us from radical islam. so give government more authority over you and give them more of you pay check cause it is just a protection racket and as long as we fight each other we never fight the real enemy.

    • LSUbaby

Sorry but a black or hispanic guy can wear a suit and still be followed. I never said the government needs to protect blacks from cops…so not sure who this rant is for.

    • Jacob Lee Thompson

I used to look like a skateboarder and I got followed around, and I later worked in retail and was trained to be on top of all customers always. Teenage white girls were the common theifs at malls, and growing up me and my friends, who happened to be black would always steal candy from 711.. shit happens?

    • zuberfizz

Spoken like someone who’s got no experience stealing, You wear stuff you can run in to steal, you save the suits for court to get a lighter sentence…

    • http://bringingdowntheband.com seangevity

      it can’t be racist…

  • ThumperNovember

It’s just a point of view. The movie touched on both sides I think. There are other shows to watch if you don’t like this one. Most black people can think for ourselves and know that all white people are not racist. I mean really.

    • Aldridge517

I never finished watching the movie (I think I saw the first fifteen minutes). Was it good? What was it about?

    • Harrington M Erica

This is the best summary of the idea. I agree.. White people stop and listen and become sensitive and aware of what is being said, that’s it. Black people are the most accepting group of white people …why? when our enslaved fore mothers were raped we instantly had bi-racial children and difference skin tones became apart of our culture… forced on us.. and we embraced it.

    • 9november

this is such a racist thing to say as a response in comparison to what he said. He’s pointing out that not every black person thinks as ignorantly as this and that each individual can think for themselves. this can apply to all ethnicity’s.
” Black people are the most accepting group of white people ”
not quite sure what you meant here but if it’s what i think you mean then, no.
Black people are far from the most accepting group. i have heard such hateful things said about Asians and Mexicans from black people (and obviously white people too). you know far too little about actual history or what’s going on in the world today. i live in an incredibly diverse city and i can tell you there is no ‘most accepting race’. people are full of hate and prejudice not bloodlines and not skin color.
from what we now know from evolution we are all the same race that separated long enough to gain new traits but short enough to still interbreed. that makes us all the same. the only thing our physical differences make is they identify what part of the world the majority of our most recent ancestors lived.

    • Sonya Richardson

she said ‘of white ppl’ uhh. ‘of white ppl’. Yes, Black are just ppl, hateful just like any other race, but we are ‘accepting’ of whites – b/c we have no choice lol.

    • Me Notanyoneelse

lol So Dear Black People, Dear Hispanic People and Dear Asian People are coming soon right?

  • aronjorge

I do not know if this presents genocide or not, but it sure as hell presents raceism….which I don’t believe this country needs.

    • Jacob Lee Thompson

Because she expresses dismay against racism, the show is racist? So if a white person said to a black person- don’t wear whiteface that’s offensive- would the white person be racist?

      Not at all.

    • Jacob Lee Thompson

You’re damn right the country doesn’t need racism- but it has PLENTY of racism to go around, which is the focal point of the series. There’s so much racism, people are genuinely oblivious to a lot of it- the show is snarkily pointing it out.

If anyone gets offended by that- and can’t sit back and go ‘wow there are white people that do that? Crazy.’ – chances are they are part of the problem

    • Apollo

yes remember white people used to give a list of appropriate drinking fountains, restrooms and seats on buses that black people were allowed to use and that was racist. white people should not dictate to black people what they should and shouldn’t be just like black people shouldn’t dictate to white people what they should and shouldn’t be

    • Jacob Lee Thompson

White people werent suggesting black people drink from different water fountains.. it was law. That was Jim Crow Laws, Government issued racism. Bad example. You can say what you want about anyone you want, but the definition of racism includes the feeling of superiority in your own race- she is not claiming to be better than whites, its framed like “it’d be nice if..”

    • Adriel Chaney

One small problem with your analysis Jacob is that the government and the jim crow laws which that government issued and enforced was not a creature separate or distinct from the collective white population. That government was in fact by, for and about white people only! So it is rationally impossible to separate white people from the acts, deeds and atrocities of their own representative government! Am I missing something here?

    • 9november

Not all white people in the country now were there back then. to all the innocent people who just came to this country for a new start are being perceived as prejudice bigots by many people judging them not for the content of their character but for the color of their skin.
Also, all young white people who have grown up in diversity and never experienced these kinds of prejudice because they were not even alive yet to be held responsible. you missed them too.
There are both White and Black kids being taught today to be racist against other ethnicity’s. it’s not just coming from one side.
If a father kills my father i have no reason to hate the child. in other words, we are not responsible for the actions of others.

    • Mercedes Martin

Majority ruled sweets. Blacks didnt make those laws thats why there was a civil rights movement for equality, equal liberty, civil liberty, however you may view it.

    • 9november

Google is not the final say as to the definition of a word that was created out of ignorance in the first place. Ethnic prejudice is the proper term to define the kind of ignorance and propaganda that comes from speak like this. I’ve conversed and debated with many “Blactivists” with similar views to hers and they definitely feel a superiority about their ethnicity over others. so if she thinks like they do then sure. if not then good for her, maybe she will learn a more appropriate platform to make a change then this obviously ignorant one.

    • Adriel Chaney

I almost completely agree except that perhaps white people shouldn’t be racist, unless…

As a group the whites who choose racism as a operating principle are consciously declaring themselves to be enemies of all peoples of color everywhere!

Were that to in fact be the case, it would be regrettable but it would remain their right as human beings to do so! Your thoughts?

    • madmex2k

There was never a “list”. Those laws may not be present, but society has not moved away from the segregation. Look at your city, most will find a defined separation of all races and cultures. We also have a new term for minorities-low income liberals. I lost friends to the recent election, not my doing, but because I didn’t vote “correctly”. Apparently I am on the wrong side of the wall.

    • 9november

the thing is, no one said Chappelle was being racist when he put on white face because it is sociably acceptable for black people to be racist to white people. specifically it’s acceptable for any other ethnicity to be racist towards white people.
now to your direct point which is obviously ignorant to what’s being considered racist here. No saying white people shouldn’t do that is not racist. to paint all white people as those who are willing to do this, is however.
now if you swapped each black person in this commercial for a white person and vice versa then yes, many in the black community would be in an uproar over this commercial.

    • Adriel Chaney

How so? What is offensive in the slightest degree about pleading with white people to please stop doing rabidly racist stuff? How possibly can that be racism? Please explain if you would from your own perspective and experience! Thank you..

    • Joseph Ricks

Pleading with all people to end racism is great. Pleading with “white people” is racist in and of itself. Collectivism is the very line of thought that allows racism. You can’t fight collectivism with more collectivism. Be part of the solution, rather than aggravating the problem. Do you want “sides” or do you want unity?

    • Harrington M Erica

No matter what we say as a Black Race they don’t get it, maybe it should be: Dear People who are not Black.?

    • Joseph Ricks

Give me a break. My whole point is if we are trying to end racism, why try to do it using the very line of thinking (collectivism) that makes racism possible in the first place? We need to stop making decisions about people based on their race, or any physical characteristic. That’s our entire problem. We see someone for 5 seconds and then we make a decision. You can not end racism by using stereotypes. You’ll just end up building a bigger wall. I want the wall to fall.

    • Harrington M Erica

Oh , so it should be , listen up Some white people who…. . or Hey I don’t like it when people…. How should a Black person point out issues that white or other races don’t get about the black racism or cultural differences, you have no opinion if your not Black on how blacks are treated or viewed. Your position here is to learn and never do what is to be gained from the show.

    • 9november

“…you have no opinion if your not Black on how blacks are treated or viewed.”
the same can be said to black people from any other race. You seem to think Racism is one sided. Racism in itself is by it’s own definition racist. the term was coined when it was thought that the two ethnicity’s were formed separately as two separate races. now we know that is not true. the correct term is ethnic prejudice. every ethnicity is capable of being prejudice against any other.
for example, i have heard some of the most hateful things said about Asians from many different Africans within my community. Asians did not enslave Africans and they faced many of the same prejudices in the United States. it doesn’t seem like the past mattered in that situation to the black people saying prejudice things. Prejudice is ugly and it would be best if it just stopped. everyone has a right to their opinion however, no matter how ignorant or hateful it may possibly be.

    • James

No tv show is ever going to end racism. Just sit back and enjoy the thing……..or don’t.

    • Sonya Richardson

Let’s try ‘Dear BLACK People”, maybe that’ll… I dunno

    • https://www.facebook.com/ThunderMountainArts Anita Floyd Sarratt

“You must comply” 😉 When people LOOK for a problem they can usually always find it. Its comedy people. :/

    • PrincessButtercup

This show stereotypes white people. That’s the problem. If there were a “Dear Black People” t.v. show that portrayed black people as inner-city gang bangers, there would be an uproar (and rightfully so). Now, of course, there are *some* white people like those portrayed in this trailer, but there are also *some* black people who live in the inner city and are actually gang bangers. So would that make the “Dear Black People” t.v. show okay? Absolutely not. Likewise, stereotyping white people the way this t.v. show appears to be doing is just as bad.

Moreover, if you check out the reaction of white people to this t.v. show, you’ll see even more division and racial tension. So why? What’s the point of this t.v. show? To make things worse? We aren’t moving forward together by throwing each other under the bus.

    • Mercedes Martin

All tv shows from whites depit black people as inner city gang bangers so what are you saying?

    • John Blanton

Most tv shows produced by blacks depict white people as either A: stupid, inept or nerdy, or B: racist.

    • Mercedes Martin

Name one and we shall discuss it. Besides All outweighs Most any day so get over it. Maybe the whites they know act in that manner. I know white trashy people, white educated people, white dumb people, white racist people and white quiet people. I like them all because they are people and they dont pretent to be anything other than who they are. Its not my place to judge them nor do I care enough about what they do unless they pay me to do so. Why do you care so much?

    • madmex2k

Throwing under the bus…or back of the bus? Its a show you can choose to watch and maybe be entertained, or not watch. This is not a life choice.

    • Harrington M Erica

No matter what we say as a Black Race they don’t get it, maybe it should be: Dear People who are not Black…

    • tomfromthenews

A true racist will always let one horrible misspelling slip into their writing. Always. (“raceism”?)

    • James

      Too late.

  • Robert Fenneywhistle

Vile, open and blatant racism against the majority… orchestrated by the “Chosen people” no doubt.

    • Jacob Lee Thompson

Go watch the movie version and come back and tell us the same shit

    • amondeonte

      Majority? Hahahahahahaha…………Chosen people?
      Ignorance IS Bliss!

  • Jason

I think the trailer makes a good point of cultural appropriation being
wrong. So my question is why is the radio DJ playing classical music?

    • 9november

it’s not cultural appropriation. that means their culture was stolen. if i steal 5 dollars from you, you no longer have that 5 dollars. they are free to practice their culture all the same. what the people who are against cultural appropriation are actually against is cultural integration. they want to have all the same equal rights plus extra rights just for being born the way they are born. basically those kind of people want to live in a double standard society based on something no one can control, their skin color.

  • Connor Ottenbacher

If only I had a netflix subscription to cancel…

    • Jacob Lee Thompson

Because that makes sense. Thousands of shows on Netflix you’ll never watch, and you’re such an intolerant bigot, you can’t stand the service having the show period? Just close your fucking eyes fam, you don’t have to watch it.

    • Connor Ottenbacher

Man you’ve been pretty active on here fam boy flame master mc gangsta. I guess I’m too busy doing evil white people things to watch much tv.

    • Jacob Lee Thompson

lmao Yeah I need to chill the fuck out

    • Jazmyne

No need to waste your breath because he’s too ignorant to realize what the whole show is about!

  • Bryan Foley

WOW , just really disturbed on it’s intentions …………………….. If we all keep going back and forth we will never come together as one . JS

  • Bryan Foley

If you feel that you are stereotyped there is a reason , just like ..eg.. companies make procedures to PREVENT the same thing to happen again ………

  • David Turner Jr.

Only white people have a problem with the discussion of racism. Once white people realize that they open this box, then we can have resolution.

    • Jazmyne

      Yep

    • Justin

Blacks are apparently upset about being told how to live, or act, or how they are depicted by whites.

Clearly then, the answer is for white people to shut up…so they can be told how to live, act, or be depicted by blacks.

Yup, makes perfect sense. It’s funny how “we need to have a conversation” only means that white people should shut up and listen. That’s not a conversation, that’s dictating. That doesn’t work with anyone.

So if you want a conversation, as you state, then every time you list something that apparently bothers you about “whites”, we will counter with something that bothers us about “blacks”.

You don’t like that some white people use black face? I don’t like that blacks disproportionally commit more violent crimes than any other race in America.

Maybe that’s a waste of time though. I know, I will start attacking Asian men. There is a pay gap there. Asian men make much more than white men. I’m going to start a TV show dictating to those privileged Asian men. What injustice.

Identity politics! So fun! So beneficial! Every minority feels they have the right to dictate how they should be treated by the majority. Where on earth, or anywhere in history did this every happen? The white minority ruled South Africa, it was injustice! The white majority rules America, injustice!

If white people start moving to China, and represent 5-10% of the population…could we also start making “Dear Chinese” videos in China? They have a lot of Chinese privilege in China. What a shame.

Waste of time. I, like a lot of white people, probably won’t watch the series. You know who will? People who don’t like whites. And it will feed into their continued view that whites are the bane of humanity, and all minorities are the victims and can do no wrong, and have all the answers.

      Boring.

    • Sonya Richardson

Hey Justin, lol u really went all out lol. It’s OK to counter lol. Seems like you’re good at that ….

    • Norm Quiros

      Be brave and watch.

    • 9november

such ignorance. if a white person ever tries to discuss race they are deemed racist.

    • Historian312

Not true in my experience. I have white skin privilege, but when I’ve brought up the subject of race with black friends or acquaintances, we’ve had some good conversations. Maybe depends on how you bring it up. With respect and willingness to listen, I’ve never had a problem.

    • NunyaBusiness✓ᵀᴿᵁᴹᴾ

      “white skin privilege”
What the hell are you talking about?
I’m white. I was born poor. I grew up poor. We qualified for WIC. We qualified for food stamps.
I was happy when we would go to the Good Will store and get new clothes for school. There is no damn such thing as white privilege. Maybe you meant you suffer from class privilege.

    • BDBaba

Well, considering that skin color is deeply entrenched in our class system, perhaps they’re essentially synonymous and you should try watching the show and having conversations where the subject isn’t all about how you’ve suffered and how you (apparently) feel attacked by the simple notion that just maybe, you’re life could have been worse had you not been white.

    • NunyaBusiness✓ᵀᴿᵁᴹᴾ

The ONLY reason it is worse for Black people is because THEY make it that way.
THEY are the ones that commit over 90% of murders against Black people. (FBI statistics)
THEY kill 25x as many blacks annually as cops do. (FBI Statistics)
THEY are the ones that commit 70% of all crimes against Black people (FBI statistics)
THEY (Black Males) are the ones that kill 40% of all police officers killed in the line of duty though they make up less that 7% of the population (FBI statistics)
THEY are the ones that create and live in single parent families. (66% vs 25% for whites) (CDC, DHHS)
THEY are the ones that that have the majority of their kids without being married (73% vs 29% for whites) (CDC, DHHS)
THEY are the ones that think bettering themselves makes them traitors to their race ie Uncle Tom, Aunt Jemima, House Ni**er, Token Black, etc.
THEY are the ones that would rather let criminals get away with their crimes than clean up their own society (snitches get stitches, he is a good kid, he had a rough childhood, “How else is a ni**er gonna get new shoes”, “just because he was robbing a house doesn’t mean he deserved to get shot”, etc)
THERE IS NOT SUCH THING AS WHITE PRIVILEGE!

    • Mercedes Martin

You made this up or did you do a live report on this? Lets talk about how many people whites kill with these Genetically Modified organisms (GMOs) that they put in our food when slavery went out of business and science took over. Or did blacks do that too? Find something important to stand for race should no longer be an issue we are all eating the same foods and getting cancer in many forms no matter your skin tone shape or height. So focus you bigots. Smh, damn we tend to play in to the hands of the stereotype while they continue to make the big bucks. Sad case, and then we die leaving our kids broke and broken. Break the cycle.

    • NunyaBusiness✓ᵀᴿᵁᴹᴾ

Those are all facts and you are an idiot.
What the hell do GMOs have to do with anything in this discussion?
If you knew how to read a tread properly you would have seen that my post was a reply to another idiots statement that whites have it better than blacks because of their skin color. Which is total and complete BS.

    • Sonya Richardson

      Doesn’t bother me.

  • anne

For the love. This isn’t offensive. And I’m about as white and privileged as they come. You know why it doesn’t bother me? Because I don’t think dressing in blackface is funny. If you’re threatened by racist stereotypes, it’s because you’re the stereotype. If you don’t want to be offended, don’t watch it, or even better STOP DOING RACIST/XENOPHOBIC/OTHERWISE HATEFUL OR INSENSITIVE STUFF. Then it no longer applies to you. I have no clue what it feels like to be a person of color in America. I only know enough to know I’m damn lucky I have no clue. So the worst thing that might come out of this? Maybe a few of you who have a taste of being offended will put things in perspective and knock off the whining

    • BDBaba

Thank you. Sadly, it still obviously applies to many of the people commenting here about their feelings being hurt by a television show.

  • pm

My spirit was born into a white body and I’m ALL ears. Please help my spirit do better!

  • Anonymous11

Doesn’t seem to be an issue. Some of us white folks didn’t learn these basic things from our parents or in college, and we need to be more racially sensitive to people of color.

    • jak

Why should any group be treated differently or “sensitively”? That is condescending AF.

  • zuberfizz

Embarrassed to be white, bunch of whiney effing babies.

    • Jazmyne

Don’t be! Be proud of yourself! There’s not a lot of people like you who knows what’s real reason behind this movie

  • Jazmyne

Colleges sent out list saying what is appropriate and what is not appropriate for an Halloween costume. And the black face was on that! Kids need to know! They expelled this white girl for having a black face and posting on Snapchat. I don’t see nothing wrong with that. Butt hurt much?

  • John Morgan Duty

Oh bullshit… It’s another self denigrating / self-loathing / self-censoring shaming of White People. She’s a green-eyed Negris and that means there was a white man in the wood pile somewhere. Screw Netflix and MTV who also did a highly racist piece telling White People what they could do better in 2017. It was so racist they had to pull it because of backlash. Lets be real, to represent only 13% of the population, blacks are the most over-represented MINORITY in America except for the Jews.

Ah ok, let’s set the whites up as two dimensional strawmen props to easily knock down while we work through the flawed and complex life of the black characters. Tired trope is tired. This show was created by Netflix for this exact racial environment in this country.

How about a show where the complex characters of all colors and cultures have naturally racist ideas and customs (because that’s how humans evolved), but the real point of the show is that everyone accepts their tendencies and people stop getting offended at how we are built.

It’s a novel idea and a lot harder to write than this race-baiting shit.

This show is obviously going to be very racist but boycotting Netflix over it is not the answer. you can simply not watch the show if you don’t like it.

if you don’t think it’s racist then reverse the roles. if you think a show called ‘dear black people’, which was about white people talking directly to black people and making jokes about them is racist then yes this show is racist.
And Yes, anyone can be racist. keep in mind that not all European populations were involved in slavery or the racism that followed in these United States. to judge by the color of one’s skin and not the content of one’s character is defined by Martin Luther King Jr. himself as racism.

Somebody needs to talk to us. We just elected the worst President in history because they love the fact that he’s a raving racist.

I think what a lot of white folks don’t want to admit is that there is quite a vast existing cultural difference that was created through slavery and reinforced through years of cultural and economic discrimination. We like to assume that there is one American “culture” — the so-called “melting pot” — and everyone simply blends homogeneously into that. Unfortunately, that’s not really true. Black culture has existed on it’s own, uniquely and often largely separate, for as long as black folks have been in America. After all, for the majority of their history in the United States, they were given no other choice but to be separate — separate but equal, separate but unequal, but always separate. Even in the post Jim Crow civil rights era, the integrative attitude was “Ok you can come along for the American ride, but leave that part of yourself, the black part of yourself, behind and behave like everyone else.” But you can’t really do that; you can’t simply abandon your history and your culture on a dime, nor should you have to. Black American history is just as vibrant and significant and integral to our identity as a nation as any other. I think shows like this and “Blackish” touch on that unspoken cultural difference; they remind mainstream America that it is a real thing that exists. And that flies in the face of the rah-rah, we are all one people refrain that white America likes to sing. So we hear things like, “YOU’RE CAUSING DIVISION”, which was a spear many people like to lob at Obama. Nah, man. Division already existed. We’re simply copping to it now. Personally, I think if we embraced it, we’d find that celebrating our collective diversity makes us a lot stronger than denying it.

The very second you say hey “white, black, gay, christian, jew, hispanic, asian, female, male, etc” it becomes a targeted statement. The second you make a targeted statement against any group on earth your statement just became racist/prejudice. Its not optional, its not opinion, its simply a fact. Facts are facts regardless of who says it about who, its still a fact. To deny that is simply stupidity, or refusal to accept fact which is usually a sign of some type of disorder or insanity.
Now for the next part. I’m tired of people trying to push us farther apart as races, sexes, religions etc. its like they want us to fight, and we just walk right into it. In the movie “A Time to Kill” the lawyer makes his point by saying what all happened to a little black girl and then says, now imagine she was white. Me, I don’t care what color she was, or what color the people that hurt her, they deserved to die. MLK Jr was a great man. He was also my brother in Christ. You can’t claim that just because your both black. Your skin color doesn’t matter. His being a christian matters. He and I are brothers. What we believe in is the same. Those killed by Dylan Roof are my brothers, not him. I don’t care who’s skin color is what. I don’t care where we grew up, they are my brothers and sisters, and he killed them. If it came to a choice I would die with them rather than even look at him.
Too much racism is being used to stop racism. Hate begets hate, it doesn’t cure it. yes we have issues on this planet, but using racist talk wont cure racism. It will simply make the divide greater. We have closed the gap from slavery to where we are now, and no its not the way it needs to be, but we are going the right direction. If nothing else, time will do it. Especially if we all keep mixing our blood. Its like women to me are either attractive, or not. Their skin color isn’t the deciding factor, if they are attractive they are regardless of skin color or race, if they aren’t they aren’t.
I don’t want anyone anywhere to suffer, but trying to always point the finger at someone else isn’t the cure. Should we go back to the Byzantine Empire or many others where whites were slaves? How silly. Every race on earth has had slaves and been slaves. Every race on earth has bad guys and good guys. We have issues on earth as a human race, but as long as we keep basing our actions on others we can make excuses to cover up for our own failings. God will judge me on how I was, not how someone else was. For those that are atheist, its the same really. You cannot control how others are, only yourself.

Well lets see. Actors from the Netflix Series STRANGER THINGS trashed Trump on TV and now we’re suppose to look past the writer of this show who said FUCK White people like they were Joking.
I have a great idea. FUCK NETFLIX
Oh wait. I unsubscribed years ago.

I’ve been white for my entire life—over 70 years!!! I think this show is a GREAT idea!

If you are angry, if you feel this show and movie is racist, then you haven’t seen them and don’t know what the show is about. You hate something you don’t understand, and to be fair the trailer obviously doesn’t help clarify or explain that. The outspoken girl on the mic leading the trailer softens up to white people after starting off distant to them, she is the militant ‘black power’ character of the movie- and a white guy in the movie asks ‘what if i made a dear black people’ which, should imply how they will discuss the whole argument, not just one sided white hatred or racism. There is an actual party with blackface at the college that another black student created through some turn of events- which opens up questions and emotions in other black characters. The movie is exploring the differences between race in a very non-racist way. The trailer isn’t great at showing that, yes, but come on.. There was a mtv clip a few years ago that did a ‘dear white people’ bit and it was very tasteless and racist, look it up, it’s actually a bit enraging. This series is not that, and if you aren’t going to even make sure before you call it WHITE GENOCIDE- how often do you speak of other things before lashing out and cancelling a whole subscription over it?

I dressed my son, who is white, as President Obama for Halloween, the year he took office. I don’t think it was racist to do so. I simply did my best to duplicate the hairline and eyebrows with make-up. Nothing with skin tone. And put him in a jacket and tie. Everyone got it.

  • John Blanton

The writer for the movie reacted to the election of Donald Trump as President of the U.S. by Tweeting “Fuck White people.”
That’s racist. I cancelled my Netflix subscription because I don’t want to support a racist.

I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT I AM OFFENDED. VERY OFFENDED. I MEAN I’M SO OFFENDED THAT I DIDN’T EVEN EAT DESSERT AFTER DINNER.
