Spotify May Explore Hi-Fi and Vinyl Subscription Tiers

Report: Spotify Is In Talks To Acquire Soundcloud

With the streaming wars all but won, Spotify appears to have its sights set on yet another corner of the market. According to The Verge, Reddit users are reporting that they've received emails gauging their feelings towards hi-fi audio and vinyl tiers being offered in new packages that range from an extra $5 to $10 per month. The first tier, at $19.99/month, would offer the full premium package in lossless CD-quality, while the cheaper tier, at $14.99, offers the same with a free piece of vinyl monthly, along with discounts on exclusive vinyl offers.

It's a logical move for the streaming service, whose 40 million paid subscribers comprise the largest base in music streaming (ahead of Apple Music's 20 million and TIDAL's still-debated 1.2 million.) And with vinyl's reclamation of market share and commercial viability, the inclusion of acetates could give Urban Outfitters a run for its money as the largest mover of wax in the states. Spotify has yet to confirm that any new packages are on the way, though they've claimed "we are always testing new products and offers but have no news to share at this time," in a statement to Billboard.
