Avoiding the ‘blue-eyed-soul’ moniker might be difficult for folk/soul artist Allen Stone, but his sound fits that label in only the most literal sense of the phrase. It’s been a minute since we last heard from him, but Stone is back with a four-song EP “The Sleep Sampler,” featuring his latest song along with some unreleased live material. Stone’s soft tone certainly makes for enjoyable studio music but it’s in live sessions where his range and subtlety really go to work, making this EP of three live tracks following lead single “The Sleep” a worthwhile listen in its own right. If that isn’t convincing you enough of the prowess of this guy’s voice, check out this oldie-but-goodie stellar performance of “Unaware” to remove any doubt. Folks heading to the Coachella Festival this year will be able to catch Stone there, but in the meantime you can stream or download (for the price of an email address) “The Sleep Sampler” below.
