Samuel L. Jackson To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award In Dubai

Samuel L. Jackson will be receiving the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).

Jackson is expected to accept the award during the opening ceremony of the 13th edition of the festival on December 7. Following that the iconic actor will take part in an intimate "In Conversation" event, where fans and industry members alike will get the opportunity to hear Jackson talk about his cinematic career and achievements, as well as ask him questions.

"It's a great honor to be given the Dubai international Film Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award," said Jackson in a statement. "It's wonderful to be included into the Emirates' film community, and I look forward to meeting all of its amazing filmmakers and making many new friends."

"Samuel L. Jackson is, quite simply, an icon," Abdulhamid Juma, DIFF's Chairman, said. "His talent and recognition span well beyond cinema and we are very much looking forward to welcoming him to DIFF for the first time. Our Lifetime Achievement Award is a testament to the dedication and talent of individuals whose abilities are unmatchable and Samuel L. Jackson is the epitome of that. Not only are we proud to be able to honor his outstanding career, but to be able to introduce him to the UAE film community through a public in conversation event is very special."

Jackson joins a list of people that have also been honored with the accolade including: Morgan Freeman; Sean Penn; Martin Sheen; Oliver Stone; Danny Glover; and Terry Gilliam.

Even with this award Jackson's resume of roles continues to grow. He served as the narrator for the James Baldwin Documentary I Am Not Your Negro, which has been well received critically and will get a worldwide theatrical release on February 3, 2017.

He also recently signed on for a science fiction film called Inversion, where he will portray a Homeland Security agent trying to save the Earth from a drastic loss of gravity.
