Run The Jewels' New "Early" Video Is An Animated Critique Of Police Violence

Run The Jewels have once again taken aim at prejudiced police and our crooked justice system, dropping a new computer-animated music video for Their RTJ2 track "Early." Comprised of a simple but effective pallet of red, black and white, the clip essentially visualizes the story of Killer Mike and El-P's verses, from a bullshit drug bust to a deep-seeded feeling that we, ourselves, are never truly free.

Created by animation/design studio Bug & Sluzzy, the "Early" clip plays out like a bad dream--a trail of bad breaks that emerge and recede from the surrounding shadows. Killer Mike and El-P's rendered likenesses are unmistakable, but there's just enough opacity to them that they become borderline universal--"Early" is a song about the inherent wrongs of American life, and in this video the characters are everymen. Run The Jewels brought "Early" to the world last year with a searing performance on The Late Show with David Letterman, and we're pleased to see that the duo is still standing firm behind the track. It's unquestionably one of the finest things they've ever done, and it couldn't possibly be played too often or too loud. Watch the animated clip below and keep an eye out for more from RTJ--these guys never stop.
