Revive Music & Blue Note Records Announce New 'Supreme Sonacy' Compilation LP Featuring Modern Jazz's Brightest Stars

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Revive Music in partnership with Blue Note Records has announced the upcoming Supreme Sonacy LP--a sprawling compilation of brand new recordings from some of the finest talents in contemporary jazz. Buttressed by performances from harpist Brandee Younger, saxophonists Casey Benjamin and Marcus Strickland, keyboardist (and frequent Roots collaborator) Ray Angry and many, many more, the album comes as a sprawling assertion that jazz, in fact, thrives today. Revive and Blue Note have both striven to bring the very best musical talents under the Supreme Sonacy heading, a title which "alludes to the supreme, transcendent power that exists at the intersection of every musical tradition, Revive head Meghan Stabile said. Stabile (who served as executive producer on the new LP) asserted that "It is the term for the undefined, unexplained derivative of sound-- a melodic experience without conformity, without category. Much too expansive to explain, it just is.”

And things are just getting started. Supreme Sonacy will be released on August 7th, and will come bearing the subheading Volume 1, and is a collective affirmation of jazz's ever-evolving power--the first leg of a polychrome trip through the music's essence of improvisation, chance, sweat and joy. Tying the entire piece together is beatmaker and DJ Brian "Raydar" Ellis, who has wrought brand new interludes that will play between many of the individual tracks--a harkening back to the mellow, harmonic breaks that jazz acts of the past often took between tunes. In these way and a great many more (most importantly the music itself), the new LP will continue the Revive spirit of challenging rote forms and pushing outward towards uncharted sonic space.

The second release from Revive (its first being Otis Brown III's brilliant The Thought Of You LP), Supreme Sonacy is not a love letter to jazz--it's more of a rallying cry.
