Raphael Saadiq presents the 7 Days Of Weak mixtape – a 15-track project with a throwback 90s r&b sound – from protégé, singer/songwriter Adrian Marcel. Saadiq executive produced the mixtape and also lent a hand with production. He expresses a great deal of pride in Marcel – a fellow Bay Area artist – and the mixtape during a promo video for the project. Raphael Saadiq also opens the release with a bit of advice for the East Oakland crooner. Check what he has to say about Adrian Marcel below:
Raphael Saadiq’s belief in Adrian Marcel’s talent is clear. It is extremely rare to see an artist of his caliber set aside time to record a testimonial lauding the talent of a newcomer. Such an endorsement should at least pique the interest of any self-confessed r&b fan. 7 Days Of Weak is lead by Marcel’s single “Waiting” – an emotionally vulnerable and bass-heavy plea for time with a special girl. The project was preceded by the video for Marcel’s single “I’m Still” – a track that asserts he’s remained the same guy despite success. Stepping it up, Marcel taps Wale for the remix. If you love how he ripped “Lotus Flower Bomb”, you will love this joint. What is abundantly clear from the sound of things is that Adrian Marcel has what it takes to continue to rise. The passion in his performance and his ear for dope production will take him far. His arrival is a win for the revival of r&b. Check the “I’m Still” video below.
