Hats Off: Radio Kangol Is Coming To A Speaker System Near You

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

One of the most recognizable fashion labels in not just hip-hop, but music itself, is about to hit the airwaves. Headwear brand Kangol--favorite of Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, LL Cool J and so many more--is preparing the launch of Radio Kangol, a new internet radio streaming station that will spin music hand-selected by ten underground record labels from all around the world.

In a press release, Kangol asserted that "the project is a love letter to the enduring role" that their marsupial-adorned hats have played ever since the 60s, when The Beatlespicked the brand as their caps of choice. Details about which artists and labels will be directly involved with the new radio service are still unclear, but given the brand's crucial role in shaping the identity of hip-hop and street art cultures from the 1980s to present day, it's a safe bet to say that plenty of beats, bars and breaks will be pulsating through their playlists. Lucky New York City residents will get the chance to celebrate the Radio Kangol launch at a party at The Supermarket in Manhattan on Wednesday, June 24th. Check the details below and stay tuned for more details, and be careful when you step out the house.
