DJ Chill - AUC/HBCU 2007-2012 Mix

Clark Atlanta’s own DJ Chill pays tribute to homecoming at the Atlanta University Center with the AUC/HBCU 2007-2012 mix. Combining the trap house anthems of undergrad with a bevy of swag surf ready jams, Chill distills partying, bottle popping, networking and gobs of nostalgia down to an airtight mix perfect for everything from pregame and tailgate to the club and the lot.

"I didn't make it to homecoming last year so i made a list off all the songs that reminded me of my time in college in ATL (Clark Atlanta). The end result was this mix. Over a hour long and I'm pretty sure there's still a few songs that got left out. Check it out."

Eli Fola - Last Day In Yoruba Land (The Gold Mix)

Nigerian multimedia artist, producer and saxophonist, Eli Fola, delivers a very special 48-minute set ahead of his upcoming Last Day In Yoruba Land exhibit for Tech Afrique. Like the exhibition, the mix combines the familiar rhythms of afrobeat with house and techno to translate his experiences as an African living in America.

"Last day in Yoruba land tells the story of a young African immigrant relentless in the pursuit of excellence and innovation in music and art. Reminiscing on the last days I spent in Lagos, Nigeria before moving to New York City eight years ago, I had a lot of dreams, ideas, and aspirations of things I was going to do in the creative world when I get to the U.S. The work I have released in the past year is a result of the things, I envisioned years ago in the Yorubaland, and I want to share that through this exhibition."

Habibi Funk - Habibi Funk 007 Mix: #AntiTrumpMusic

Jakarta Records chief Jannis Sturtz serves up a heaping helping of #AntiTrumpMusic with the latest installment in the Habibi Funk mix series. Habibi Funk 007 boasts a decidedly lush soundscape of standout recordings from the 70s and 80s that celebrate the countries in and around the fertile crescent while challenging stereotypes about the Arabic world.

"Just 2 days ago I was sitting in a cafe during my recent trip for Lebanon and Egypt when Donald Trump announced his ban of muslim people visiting the USA marking another climax of xenophobia, anti muslim and anti Arabic narrative (الترجمة العربية أسفله). At the same time I was in Cairo, a colorful, energetic and vital city that despite the cities and countries problems has not much in common with the stereotypical narrative of the Arabic world that is so largely told in the Western media. I’m aware that in times of these music is just a tiny piece of the puzzle to tell a different story but given that this is what I’m working with I felt it was the right time to drop another mix of music from Arabic tapes, vinyl and master tapes. Music that is very different to what a lot of people might expect. Straight up Chicago soul music with the „The Cats“, an Egyptian band covering „The Dells“, Lo-Fi electronic music from Sudan, tropical sounds from Cairo by "Al Massrieen", energetic disco from Algeria by „Zohra", another unknown banger by Morocco’s answer to James Brown „Fadoul“. Or what about some incredible AOR / yacht pop from Lebanon feat. Ziad Rahbani on keys with „Games“ and another little preview of our forthcoming „Ahmed Malek & Flako“ record among some other great music? Music that tells a different story, music to listen to when the world is going crazy and everything in between. #antitrumpmusic"

Wonway Posibul - 2016 In Memoriam Mix

Makossa BK founder Wonway Posibul takes a look back at the devastating losses suffered by music makers and lovers the world over with the 2016 In Memoriam mix. The 1-hour mix recorded at Oakland’s Beautiful Bels Studio pays tribute to titanic talents like Phife Dawg, Sharon Jones, Alphonse Mouzon, Bernie Worrell, George Michael, David Bowie and a host of others.

"2016 was a year to be remembered..

Our hearts and souls were constantly being tested by the world. Hate and mistreatment of others wasn’t just part of our everyday conscious but normalized, propped up, and in the case of this country given office.

For many (myself included), music is our release, escape, and medicine. We look to artists and musicians for solace in these difficult times, yet somehow 2016 wouldn’t even allow for that. Maybe it’s just the internet and the access to information we have now but I can’t remember another year in my life where so so many of our artistic and musical vanguard left us. From lesser known session players to the all mighty superstars, the world felt a little more lonely.

I decided to create this mixtape to commemorate and celebrate this long list of artists."
