Marvel Reveals New Defenders Comic With Netflix Lineup

In anticipation of The Defenders television series that will be hitting Netflix some time this year, Marvel Comics is hard at work creating the show's comic book equivalent.

The latest iteration of The Defenders in the comic book world will have the same team as the one that will be popping up on Netflix: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The comic will be spearheaded by Brian Michael Bendis (who created Defenders member Jessica Jones, as well as Riri Williams (commonly known as Ironheart, the spiritual successor to Iron Man).

"I wanted to do a sprawling, Godfather-like epic at the street level of the Marvel Universe, really putting out hooks down and creating a modern, elaborate organized crime story that is different than what has gone before, but builds on everything that has happened to these characters, as individuals or as a team, and putting them in the hardest battle for the street that anyone can imagine," Bendis said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"You will get Jessica Jones looking out her window, street-level, and my return to Daredevil, which will be different than what I and Alex [Maleev] did before," Bendis added. "And Luke and Danny, characters that I have a strong affinity for."

Bendis will be teaming up again with artist David Marquez (the two worked together on Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man and Civil War II), while Justin Ponsor will serve as colorist. Alanna Smith and Tom Brevoort will be editors for the comic book series.

The Iron Fist television series is slated to drop on March 17, 2017, with the other superheroes a part of The Defenders already having received their screen time. As for the comic book counterpart to the superhero team, that will be released some time in June, so be on the lookout for that. Check out a trailer for The Defenders TV show below.
