Though she may have been living life off the grid over since the release of her 2013 covers album Mockingbird, Kendra Morris is swiftly and surely making her way back to the world. On June 17th, the NYC-based songbird will release the seven-track EP Babble, her first album of original compositions since her 2012 debut, Banshee. And as a bit of an introductory course (or reintroduction for those who’ve been waiting,) we’re happy to bring your her new single “Cry Sometimes” off the forthcoming project. It’s a spell of slow-burning soul a la Stax or early Motown, even using the video to beaucoup Detroit and its history of musical excellence by gliding through the city’s horizon, harking back to her time on tour with the legendary Dennis Coffey, whose six-string and production chops have been at the core of countless Hitsville cuts.
