John Mayer Trio x Chick Corea Perform "After Midnight" On LNWSM

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

John Mayer Trio --consisting of D'angelo's right-hand bass-man Pino Palladino and Clapton drummer Steve Jordan-- teamed up with fusion pioneer Chick Corea, Miles Davis disciple Wallace Roney and ex-Weather Report percussionist Manolo Badrena for a titanic cover of JJ Cale's smooth blues rocker "After Midnight" on Late Night With Seth Meyers. They took JJ Cale's classic and turned it out with Mayer and Corea exchanging virtuoso blues licks, while the Jordan/Palladino/Badrena rhythm section held down the pocket like no other. It was a gem of a cover from Mayer & Co, who was brought under the wing of Eric Clapton and publicly plead for the return of the R&B Yoda, landing him the formidable rhythm section of Palladino and Jordan. You can watch the super-powered collaboration below.
