Frank Ocean turns out this sublime composition “Bad Religion” with a little help from The Roots–and a full string ensemble. Pretty damn epic on it’s own merits but it’s place in r&b history is doubly secured with Ocean’s surprise announcement of the early digital release of his new LP Channel Orange, timed with this Jimmy Fallon appearance. Watch above, stream the whole thing here and then purchase on iTunes.

I frankly want to see that kid from American Idol get this type of welcome. I think that this kid is talented but that kid is WAAAAAY more talented this this kid. Usher, Wale, Ne-Yo…enough already. Something different please.

  • Soul2Soul

So Allahu Akbar now is associated with bad religion??
    Shameful

    • boompow

guess someone doesn’t get the whole idea of a metaphor in songs.. or maybe you just weren’t listening to the lyrics.

  • Love and Love

I can not wait to see him perform!!!!! Bought it on I-tunes and I’m going to buy the album when it drops in stores on July 17!!!!

All of the negative comments in this section, I’ve got one thing to say; this wasn’t made for you, so fuck you!

Frank nails it. Kid is young, gifted and genuine. You can’t ask for much more… Ocean is a true leader!

  • Soul2Soul

boompow: I do understand that the artist is gifted and definitely not questioning Ocean’s skills , all i’m saying is record companies and the media in general just tend to degrade Islam out of all the other religions, if you didn’t noticed that yet i suggest you go to the movies and or tune into any mainstream radio station.

I think the cab driver in the story just happens to be Muslim.

    • Jazz

The song is not about religion. It’s about the unreciprocated love he feels for another. Listen to the lyrics of the entire song not just a snippet.

    • miggles

Soul2Soul you have totally misunderstood the song. Connect your ears to your brain and try again.

    • Derek

it’s not a snub to Islam; he’s asking for someone to listen to him and the response is “Allah Hu Akbar” which he assumes is a “curse” in that the driver is dismissive or disapproving of what he is saying. When driver says he needs prayer, he realizes that driver is trying to comfort him and says “it can’t hurt”. Not sure how people are coming to conclusion that it’s degrading Islam unless you just weren’t listening

    • Derek

kind of like when you say something and someone dismissively says “oh God” meaning “wtf is wrong with you” in most cases

  • g8r bootz

I hate to say it Carol, but why are you here?? American Idol?.. lol This is hip hop and R&B not Pop and Top 20 Countdown

    Frank Ocean = talent!

  • Eliha

Oh boy! It’s artistry ie Freddie Mercury saying Beelzebub has a devil waiting, Bismillah, etc. Franks jus giving you a momen in his life.

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT TO THE OKAYPLAYER TEAM. THIS VIDEO SHOULD BE REMOVED. IF YOU DONT KNOW THE MEANING OF ISLAM DON’T SPEAK ABOUT IT. OR POST ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT’S DISRESPECTFUL AND IMMATURE. WE ARE ALL PEOPLE. WHO IS FRANK OCEAN? A GAY DUDE WITH NO KNOWLEDGE. TALK LOVE IF THATS WHAT YOU KNOW. YOU CANT TALK ABOUT MEDICINE UNLESS YOU’VE STUDIED IT. PEACE = WHAT WE NEED. REAL TALK.

    • jeremy

you’re an idiot. the “bad religion” he’s referring to is to be in love with someone who doesn’t love you. listen to the song properly before you make outlandish accusations. you fool.

    • Moozlum

If you ain’t a muslim then don’t talk shit homeboy. Saying “Allahu-Akbar” in a song called “Bad religion” has nothing to do with love. I’m a Artist myself and I know what gay people like “Frank” be talking about these days. I’m just saying it’s wrong and it’s unprofessional, and those are unnecessary words to use in a “love song”, thats all. This is your new generation radio shit that you feeling. Stick to the Roots of music if you know anything about it, maybe then you’ll understand and learn something about real “love songs”. Peace.

Yo Frank Ocean’s album is awesome and I’m not even a big R&B fan. Keep doing your thing young man.
