OKP Premiere: Robert Glasper x Emeli Sandé - "Somebody Else" [Lyric Video + Webisode]

Emeli Sand\u00e9 x Robert Glasper - "Somebody Else" lyric video

One nice thing about music: when it hits you, you feel no pain. That's good because Robert Glasper is pummeling fools with music right now, throwing jazz-tastical haymakers like Muhammad Ali reborn in the form of a piano-man. Today we get the new lyric video for Black Radio 2's Emeli Sandé collabo "Somebody Else"--which, you may recall, sounds something like this:

The gifted musician lays down a strong, but sweet rhodes line for the boom-bap drums to take hold of and Emeli to lay down the gentle, yet vibrant vocals the song demands. Coming off an album that promises to have as many collaborations as chord changes, the track boasts some of the better qualities of the genre-demolishing artist’s repertoire, including tight snares and synths, missing only the voice-box treatment he gave the rework of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on his last LP (though I’m sure we’ll be hearing it soon enough.)

As a special Okayplayer premiere bonus, our peoples at Blue Note Records have shared this behind the scenes webisode, getting some insight right from the source (shot in the studio, no less) on the experience and creative process Glasper and Sandé went through in creating the track--which was written for Sandé and then rewritten and knocked out in one marathon session counducted while she was in New York for the premiere of The Great Gatsby. Watch the lyric video below and scroll down fo the behind the scenes webisode--and get ready for another barrage of musical jabs and roundhouses to come over the next few days as we enter Black Radio-mania (part 2 the electric boogaloo) around the official release date (which is tomorrow Oct. 29th >>>Pre-order here via iTunes!)
