De La Soul's First Album In 12 Years Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard Rap Albums Chart

A week and a half into De La Soul‘s And The Anonymous Nobody campaign, celebrations are in order. With their first album in 12 years, the formative trio has hit the top of the Billboard rap album charts. Crowdsourced and independently released, And The Anonymous Nobody is the fruit of the second highest grossing Kickstarter campaign in the site’s history, garnering over $600,000 in incentivized donations, making this an album for the people, funded by the people.

And The Anonymous Nobody features contributions from David Byrne, Little Dragon, Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, Usher and somehow, even more, making it their most collaborative and eclectic release to date; a true reflection of the group’s own taste, respectively. It was released on August 26th and has also landed at No. 2 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. So here’s to the continued reign of hip-hop’s most enduring outfit, still shaking the earth and our collective minds nearly 30 years after their founding. If you’ve yet to delve into De La Soul’s new piece, pick up your digital copy on iTunes today and head over to The OKP Shop to grab the record on wax.
