Bilal A Love Surreal press shot

Watching Bilal‘s new short film, an accompaniment to A Love Surreal’s neo-funk jam “West Side Girl,” I couldn’t help but think of the movies of Prince, who is clearly some kind of guiding spirit to Bilal. The song gets a full narrative treatment with a storyline filled with romance and misconduct. The mini-movie, directed by Lee Davis, sees the soul singer flexing his acting chops with a hilarious Pulp Fiction-esque opening dialogue ala “Royale with Cheese,” et al.  Check the epic clip below and be sure to pick up A Love Surreal  if you haven’t yet.

A wonderful film I say. Und beautiful.

The acting just kept getting funnier; almost fell out of my chair at the end.
