#1 To convene a diverse group of local, community-based organizations to promote existing programs and form a newly established partnership, i.e. a unified program leave-behind for the youth.#2 To convene a one-day gathering of prominent national organizations, celebrities, and media partners who will help to cast a wide net of support for Baltimore youth and those like them across the U.S., i.e. create a possible, national model for civic engagement.
#3 To educate and distribute information to youth on safely and respectfully interacting with the police, i.e. establishing clear guidelines on their rights as a citizen, in addition to guidance on what positive civil disobedience looks like.
#4 To educate young people on how to get involved in the legal system, play a more significant role in political justice, and exercise their right to vote.
#5 To gather widespread support for the following three, national legislative priorities as identified by the Justice League's #March2Justice leadership:
JUVENILE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION ACT (JJDPA): (Protecting Children and Providing for Our Communities.) The JJDPA creates a federal-state partnership for the administration of juvenile justice and delinquency prevention by providing: a juvenile justice planning and advisory system, and a federal funding plan for delinquency prevention and improvements in state and local juvenile justice programs. The JJDPA also sets forth federal standards to ensure a minimum level of safety and equitable treatment for youth who come into contact with the juvenile justice system.
END RACIAL PROFILING ACT: (The End Racial Profiling Act (ERPA)) (H.R. 2851), would prohibit the use of profiling on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin or religion by law enforcement agencies.
MILITARIZATION BILL: (Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act) (H.R. 5478) - Amends the program under which the Secretary of Defense is authorized to transfer excess personal property of the Department of Defense (DOD) to federal and state agencies for law enforcement activities. Excludes counter-drug activities from the categories of law enforcement activities for which DOD property may be transferred under such program. The legislation lays out a number of changes to current law.
