Kendrick Lamar in the studio

Rap music’s great western hope Kendrick Lamar speaks to the infamous DJ Whoo Kid in this radio interview, calling in to WK’s Shade 45 show to speak on his collaborations with Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q, the experience of working with Dr. Dre (in one of the conversations more ear-perking moments, K-Dot puts the number of records he and Dre have recorded as about 30. Ruh? Rooby Racks?) and more slippery philosophical questions, parsing the difference between Black Hippy and black hipster. When pressed to name an R&B singer who he’d like to work with and who ‘can f*ck with his style’ Kendrick didn’t hesitate before shouting out our own okayplayer queen Erykah Badu–and no-one else. To which Whoo Kid could only reply: “Man, you just f*cked my head up.” Indeed.
